4-6 cube steaks
In large pan heat 1-2tbsp of oil and 1-2 tbsp butter over med-high heat
In large bowl mix approx cup or two of flour with salt n pepper (or any spices/seasoning u like)
Dredge cube steaks in flour and cook in pan until browned on each side (don’t over cook..just brown..~2-3 min per side). Add a little more oil if needed. Set in large baking dish. Chop onion and sprinkle over steaks (optional). Sprinkle small amount of cayenne pepper over steaks for some kick (optional).
For the graavvyyy (don’t be afraid****. . This is easy graavvyyy)
Mix 1/2 cup cold water with a couple large spoonfuls of flour. ( I use left over seasoned flour from dredging). Pour into pan and mix w pan drippings w whisk. Stir …it will thicken quick…add 2 more cups of water, stirring constantly until it starts to thicken again. Add 1 1/2 more cups of water, a tsp of Salt n 1/4 tsp pepper to taste. Once it starts to thicken again pour over cube steaks n onion. **it won’t be super thick like u think graavvyyy should be. .. it will do so while baking. To add a little more flavor to the gravy you could add season salt, onion powder, and garlic powder. Or whatever spices you like instead of just salt and pepper.
Cover dish w foil and bake 1 1/2 hr at 350 degrees. Last 10 min take foil off and bake so graavvyyy turns that yummy brown color.
Serve with rice or mashed potatoes to sop up the yummyness … I like rice w side dish of olive oil sauteed asparagus w a sprinkle of adobo seasoning.
**I used to be afraid of making graavvyyy. .. this method is pretty straight forward and easy… Once you do it you can improvise and add different seasonings to your liking. To use for other recipes. ..You can also add more flour or cornstarch to thicken it if you don’t bake it.
